But if you have an affinity for the old series or maybe you're just looking for a show to watch with your kids (do people watch shows with their children anymore?) then I think you'll find ThunderCats wildly entertaining. Look, if you have no interest in watching new kid-oriented (mostly) animation then stay away. Original Lion-O Larry Kenney plays Claudus here in a great, honorary "passing of the torch" role. Lion-O and Tygra now have a competitive relationship that extends over even into their love life as both of them seem to have eyes for the mysterious Cheetara ( Emmanuelle Chriqui). Tygra has been given a juiced-up part here as Lion-O's older, more-experienced adopted brother who cannot inherit the throne from their father, King Claudus, even though everyone thinks he'd make a perfect king. Everyone is there but it's going to take more than just this one double-episode for them to all find each other and unite under a common goal. There are a few reveals that I won't give away because this is an advance review, but let's just say that the ThunderCats you know as a team (or don't if you're checking out this property for the first time) aren't going to start off this show as a team. Also, it's just a hell of a lot of fun - which is also probably the best way to describe this new series as a whole. We've got something somewhat similar happening in Cowboys & Aliens, which opens this weekend, but for some reason this conflict really works best when we travel back in "time" (even a fictional time) more than just a hundred years. It would be as if The Shire got invaded by Shogun Warriors. And it was such a cool moment on this show that it makes me wonder why this theme hasn't been actually capitalized in movies.
